These kinds of spells have utility uses, as opposed to combat spells. Common utility spells include:
- Lumino, the mage-light spell
- Averte Lumina, to extinguish lights both conjured and mundane
- Signum Lux, a signal flare or simple firework
- Reficio, to mend nonmagical items
- Creo [item], to conjure items of a known shape
(Game off: utility spells cannot be cast directly against an opponent, but they can be used on your environment. To use them, you only need to know an appropriate casting word/phrase and then successfully roll to cast it. Attempting to use them directly upon an opponent causes a -10 casting penalty, and even a "natural 20" is not a guaranteed success, however.)
Learning utility spells comes with magical training, and their effects are impacted by how long you have been learning magic. For example, a mage-light spell cast by a first year may be enough to provide candlelight, while one cast by a professor may be akin to a spotlight or illuminate an entire room.
