This legendary creature is difficult to describe and comprehend, but it shows up in legends from around the world. It is also called the Sun-Eater by Solarials

"The Wave" is the best way to describe this creature. It is a roiling, carnivorous, sentient mass of shadow that seeks only to destroy. Its tendrils are said to form gnashing wolf heads or sometimes draconic shapes, which seek to engulf and swallow up all light. There is much lore suggesting that it wishes to devour the sun and the moon, and that it is able to connect into our realm during full moons and especially during eclipses.

It cannot be bargained with, and lore from all species agree that the only way to deal with it is to RUN and try to escape. Many feel if you can see it, then it is already too late to run away successfully.

Known Traits[]

This is one of the few creatures of the shadow realm that is NOT weak to Radiant magic. If anything, it tries to devour it. It is drawn to the life force or spirit essence of a person as food, though will readily maul and devour any physical body as well. Its primary method is to flood over its prey, enveloping them and tearing them apart body and spirit with the tendrils of wolf/dragon/monster heads that form briefly out of its undulating, shadowy mass. Its defining trait is insatiable hunger. It is always hunting, and will not stop, simply rolling across the landscape or even through the sky, chasing to devour the light.

The worst thing is: there seem to be multiple of them. It is unclear whether the Wave actively chooses to split itself like an amoeba, as its sentience can only be described as monstrously alien. It does not communicate, but those few who have been caught by it and escaped do describe a frightening intelligence surrounding them, eager to rip them apart.

They are said to be unkillable, but there are some who still seek to try (such as the Solarials of Muspelheim).

Known Lore[]

This creature is mentioned in Chinese lore as Tiangou: a monstrous shadow dog enveloping the sun.

It is also mentioned in the Norse Ragnarok lore as Skoll and Hati, the wolves that seek to swallow the Sun and the Moon.
