Magical Schools exist to provide group education to magically talented youth.
They usually have a goal of teaching young mages how to control their abilities, gain greater power and finesse, and not wipe out entire buildings with an accidental fireball or from mixing the wrong magical components in a lab beaker (both of which happen with astonishing frequency on school grounds!)
There are many different magical schools out there. Most are boarding schools that have the students stay on site in dormitories through 8-10 month school year, though there are others like Trefoil Academy of Magery and Sorcery for Gifted Young Mages that only meet during the "summer break" or have other differences.

Schooling Alternatives[]
Not all mages learn at an established school. Some other options include:
- Apprenticeship to a mentor who teaches them magic and other academics personally
- Family Homeschooling
- Small-group Homeschooling
- Mundane/Non-magical school
- Self-study
Many mages are taught in one of the above ways even before going to a magical school, since magic schools require a base level of reading, writing, and mathematics comprehension. Some continue learning in that way.
Trefoil's Apprenticeship Program[]
Students entering their "final year" of schooling (typically 17 or soon to turn 17) are permitted to apply to a (game on) apprenticeship program, where they choose to get their final schooling degree through Trefoil Academy while traveling with or living alongside certain staff members during their last school year. Some mentoring staff will take on several apprentices at once; sometimes groups or pairs of staff will trade off an apprentice or a group of them. In all cases, the apprentice will learn all basic schooling curriculum as well as specialized career knowledge. The student must pass any tests required by their home country to be acknowledged as having graduated, so some self-guided study is often necessary.
These mentorship programs are limited to what staff members are willing to offer them, as not all Academy staff members can provide that opportunity during the year.
Examples include:
- Ash was apprenticed to former abjuration professor "Tyto" in studying magic and combat as well as sociology, and graduated at age 17 before taking magical law enforcement exams
- Paws was apprenticed to former Wolfin head "Moth" in studying magizoology, and graduated at age 17 before becoming an adult staff member of the Academy
- Critter was apprenticed to Moony in studying magizoology, and graduated before becoming an adult staff member of the Academy
